Consulting at Whinpark Medical Centre is by appointment. Routine appointment times are available from 08:30 Monday to Friday.
We also operate an early morning surgery on a Tuesday and a Friday when appointments can be booked from 07:20.
Appointments can be made up to 2 weeks in advance either at the reception desk or by telephoning from 08:00 to 18:00. Please remember that appointments are 10 minutes long and the doctor may only be able to deal with one problem during this time. If you have several complaints or feel that your particular problem is more complex, it may be more appropriate to ask for a double appointment.
You can see any doctor of your choice. However, if at all possible, we would encourage you to try and see the same doctor for every consultation. To find out which days each doctor works please look at their details on our "Practice Team" page.
We also have a triage system throughout the day where patients are able to discuss their symptoms with a clinician who is able to give advice, slot patients in for an appointment either with a doctor or a nurse, or arrange a prescription or a home visit.
You can also see our Nurse Practitioner who is highly skilled, well qualified and can assess and treat a wide range of conditions.
The doctors are very happy to speak to patients over the phone and if you leave a message and your number they will phone you back after surgery.
If you feel unwell and feel you need to be seen the same day, please try and phone as early in the day as possible. We have a number of 'same day' appointments released each day as well as an emergency surgery. Emergency surgeries can be extremely busy and you should be prepared to wait.
In the event of an acute medical emergency, i.e. one which is a matter of life or death only, please phone 0131 443 2397. This is a dedicated phone line which will be answered immediately and should not be used under any other circumstances. Please note it is ONLY manned during our opening hours of 08:00 to 18:00.
Why does the Receptionist need to ask what’s wrong with me?
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
